CS:S Update

Valve have released the Counter-Strike: Source update from the BETA stage and it's all suddenly live. Servers have been unplayable most of the day as we were not prepared for the unannounced release.

Currently, only the Dust2 Server is currently operating, thanks to Lethal's hard work.

Many addons and plugins aren't currently working, which will be fixed by Sourcemod and their respective authors within the next few days.

Servers are only running at 66tick, due to Valve introducing a default value to server command lines. We are working on a work-around to operate the servers at 100tick again.

Please report any unexpected shutdowns or crashes on the forum.

Yay, thanks. =)

Can finally play a bit... hate playing on random public.

Found this whilst browsing the Steam Forums: (don't know if you've seen it) http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=1319893
Allows you to change the tickrate to 100. But it does not necessary improve performance apparently. Since the upgrade did changeover to the orangebox engine, not sure how the networking of the engine handles 100tick. Some report fine, others not as much.

My ping is fine during play, just lag like a mofo during gameplay. Would the lag have been due to the 66tick possibly?

It could be quite possibly that. A lot of people are complaining about having performance issues since the update.

One person suggested changing your rates to match a 66tick server. Haven't played lately though, so hard to say. Try setting these in your autoconfig, heard it does help performance issues. Also, this is a switch to the orangebox engine, which is slightly more demanding compared to the previous engine. Worth keeping in mind if you have a very old PC.

Code: Select all
//_Set Netcode vars_
cl_cmdrate "66"
cl_interp "0.033"
cl_interp_ratio "2"
cl_lagcompensation "1"
cl_updaterate "66"
cl_smooth "1"
rate "25000"
fps_max "80"  // keeps your fps at a constant, so it doesn't spike and then dip down below 60 fps. Can be lowered but doesn't need to be any higher because your eyes cannot keep up with it.

What type of lag are you getting? Network? FPS?

I think it might be because most of the servers that went online were foreign nationality, ie. french servers etc... I say that because since the update I lagged pretty terribly on most of the server i went on, but was playing on our dust2 server for ages just now and experienced virtually no lag at all.

Maybe it's just me then, When I was on dd2 earlier with you, still laggy, although it was not as bad! :)

Well, I had my first go today and I had 400-600 ping. ¬¬ But, once I restarted my router it settled down to the 80's, still high for me but no lag so good enough..

As for the game.. Will see how I feel about it after a while.

I get about 30 ping and up to 120 fps but it isn't smooth. I can be running around and the next second be dead, stuff like that. It's so shit.

Yeah, think going to give CSS a rest till the update it. (doubt I'll stand by that xD but hey). Just tried to mix like this, and it was for the most part unplayable. Too jolty and its not smooth. Got a config now, which has improved it a lot, but still. It's not the same quality.

On another note:
Can/will the servers have killcam turned off? I know you can have it off automatically, but yeah. Highly dislike it. :p

The new engines reg is fairly immaculate i'll give it that, was enjoying actually being able to hit others on the d2 server. The lag and everything else I still think is shocking however.

Okay, maybe it's just my opinion but I stand by it. Either that or I always aim my bullets slightly to the side :P
